Mrs. Sophie Abunga (Member)

MYSELF, HOME AND LIBRARY

My name is Sophie Abunga from Thurdibuoro Location, Upper Nyakach Division, Nyando District. I'm Luo by tribe aged 38 years and a nursery school teacher at St. Teresa's Girls' Bolo. I'm married with eight children all alive. Five of my children are boys the other three are girls

My home is situated between Thurdibuoro Secondary School and Oyuma junction market. The two of my children a boy and a girl sat for KCPE in the year 2001 and they both passed. The girl is at Ahero Girls Secondary School and the boy is still at home due to some financial problems.

I have a home which has five houses. My house is semi-permanent and during the rainy season it is flooded all over, even the toilets do sink during this time. I do store a lot of firewood except water because I do not have water storage drams. If I can have gutters all over and a water tank I can be a very happy woman in this world.

I thank the Japanese Government very much to have remembered us (Nyakach) people with a Library. It is a blessing to us and our children are benefiting from it very much. Most Schools don't have text books, but now they can enjoy the books from the Library freely.

My suggestion is most pupils do not know how to read and enjoy the books especially the lower primary i.e. that is nursery, Classes 1, 2 3 and probably class 4. I'm very much ready to assist them if they can come at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. On Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00 p.m. except on public holidays only.

We should educate parents about the usefulness of the Library and the community at large.

I like my profession very much and I had received trophies from the District, Division and Zonal for two years consecutively.
Thank you Mr. Sakoda (engineer).
